At the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belém, Brazil, PT Vale Indonesia Tbk took the stage to present Indonesia’s progress in producing world-class, climate-aligned nickel. The company used its platform at the Indonesia Pavilion to communicate how responsible mining, advanced technology, and strategic partnerships are helping shape a low-carbon future for nickel production.
During a session titled “Emerging Technologies to Respond to Climate Change,” PT Vale emphasized that Indonesia is not only one of the world’s largest nickel suppliers but also a leader in sustainable critical mineral development. Company representatives outlined efforts to reduce emissions and improve environmental performance across the nickel value chain — from mining to processing.
A key message highlighted how technological innovation and partnerships — especially with downstream companies — are supporting climate goals. Measures discussed include emissions-cutting technologies and operational improvements that reduce carbon intensity and energy use in processing facilities.
At COP30, PT Vale also underscored its strong environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance. The company reported its best-ever ESG Risk Rating of 23.7, placing it among the top 15 lowest-risk diversified mining companies globally — a milestone reflecting continued transparency, governance, and sustainability commitment.
By showcasing Indonesia’s climate-aligned nickel strategy on the global stage, PT Vale reinforced the message that responsible mineral supply can support both energy transition goals and economic growth — helping position the nation as a trusted partner in the evolving global battery and clean-energy supply chains.
