Halmahera Tengah, Indonesia — PT Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP), PT Weda Bay Nickel (WBN), together with tenants operating in the Weda Bay Industrial Area, reaffirmed their strong commitment to occupational safety and health by actively participating in the 2026 National Occupational Safety and Health Month (BK3N).
The BK3N 2026 commemoration at Weda Bay serves as a strategic platform to further embed a robust Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE/K3) culture across all operational levels, particularly within Indonesia’s rapidly growing nickel and downstream industrial sector.
Promoting a Strong Safety Culture in the Nickel Industry
Aligned with the national theme “Building a Professional, Reliable, and Collaborative National Mining Safety Management Ecosystem,” the BK3N 2026 activities at Weda Bay were held from 8 January to 14 February 2026. The program emphasizes that occupational safety is not merely a regulatory requirement, but a fundamental pillar of sustainable and responsible industrial operations.
IWIP and WBN highlighted that a strong safety culture is essential to ensuring operational excellence, workforce protection, and long-term industrial sustainability, especially in large-scale nickel processing and mining activities.
Series of BK3N 2026 Activities at Weda Bay
Throughout the BK3N 2026 period, IWIP, WBN, and tenant companies organized a series of initiatives aimed at increasing safety awareness and employee engagement, including:
- Occupational safety and health training programs for workers
- Internal safety campaigns promoting safe work practices
- Emergency response and evacuation simulations
- Cross-functional discussions to strengthen coordination between management, employees, and contractors
These activities are designed to minimize workplace risks, prevent accidents, and promote consistent implementation of safety standards across all operational areas within the Weda Bay Industrial Park.
Collaboration as the Key to Workplace Safety
The BK3N 2026 celebration involved not only permanent employees but also contractors, service providers, and business partners operating within the Weda Bay area. According to IWIP and WBN, collaborative participation from all stakeholders is critical to building a safe, healthy, productive, and resilient industrial ecosystem.
By continuously strengthening occupational safety practices, IWIP and WBN aim to support Indonesia’s vision of developing a globally competitive and sustainable nickel industry while prioritizing the well-being of the workforce and surrounding communities.
