PT Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP) continues to reaffirm its commitment to supporting sustainable basic infrastructure development for communities surrounding its operational area. This commitment is demonstrated through the construction of a coastal seawall as well as the development and improvement of village roads in Gemaf Village, North Weda District, Central Halmahera Regency.
Industrial area development is expected to contribute positively to both the environment and local communities. This principle serves as the foundation for IWIP in realizing the construction of a coastal seawall along the shoreline of Gemaf Village.
The seawall, built along a 1.2-kilometer stretch of coastline, is designed as a long-term protective measure for the coastal area. Through careful technical planning, the structure is expected to mitigate wave impact while maintaining shoreline stability. This initiative aligns with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, which form a key pillar of IWIP’s sustainability policy.
Gemaf Village Head, Yoke Jinimaya, expressed his appreciation for the seawall development, noting that it has significantly enhanced the sense of security among local residents. Prior to the construction, the community faced constant concern during the southern monsoon season. “One of the impacts previously even caused a landslide near the village cemetery. Since the seawall was built, those risks are no longer felt,” he said.
In addition to coastal protection, IWIP has also contributed to improving village accessibility through road construction and rehabilitation. According to data from IWIP’s External Relations Department, the company has developed a total of 2.6 kilometers of village roads in Gemaf to date. The work includes asphalt paving as well as the construction of drainage systems to ensure road functionality, particularly during the rainy season.
Yoke Jinimaya further stated that more than 70 percent of roads in Gemaf Village have now been built or improved with IWIP’s support. Improved road conditions have enhanced community mobility, facilitated the distribution of agricultural products, and improved access to educational facilities and healthcare services.
For IWIP, public infrastructure development represents a tangible contribution to improving the quality of life of surrounding communities. Through synergy with local governments, village administrations, and community participation, IWIP hopes that development in Gemaf Village will deliver long-term benefits and serve as a foundation for sustainable social and economic growth.
