The commitment of PT Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP) to implementing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles has once again earned national recognition. The strategic nickel processing industrial estate in Halmahera has successfully transformed 65,254 workers from non-skilled categories into skilled workers through structured and continuous training programs.
IWIP’s ESG commitment is not limited to environmental and governance aspects alone, but is also concretely realized through the strengthening of the Social pillar namely, the development and empowerment of local human resources as the main foundation for industrial sustainability.
Unsurprisingly, IWIP places local human capital development as a long-term priority. The training programs cover a wide range of competencies, including industrial technical skills, occupational health and safety (OHS), and the enhancement of operational skills tailored to real workforce needs. This approach ensures that local communities are not only part of industrial growth, but also possess the capacity and competitiveness to thrive within it.
Graduates of these training programs form the primary talent pool to meet workforce needs within IWIP and its tenants. This model builds a strong linkage between training, job readiness, and employment opportunities, while also creating a multiplier effect for the regional economy. As workforce quality improves, opportunities for communities in North Maluku to be absorbed into the industrial sector and supporting industries continue to expand.
“Human resource development is not merely an operational necessity, but a long-term investment for the company. We believe that a strong and sustainable industry must be built on the capacity and excellence of local human capital,” said Roslina Sangaji, General Manager of Human Resources at IWIP.
Through the transformation of tens of thousands of workers, IWIP demonstrates that ESG implementation is not just about compliance with global standards, but a development strategy oriented toward long-term value. It also serves as proof that modern industrial development can go hand in hand with human development, an essential foundation for creating inclusive, sustainable, and highly competitive growth.
With this consistent commitment, IWIP recently received the Golden Leader Award at the Jaringan Media Siber Indonesia (JMSI) Awards 2026, recognized as Golden Leader in Human Capital Development for its ESG-driven initiatives that deliver tangible positive impacts to society.
